Has the June Bank Holiday crept up on you? It certainly has for me! Are you foot loose and fancy free this weekend? Well, there’s still a chance to snap up some last minute tickets to Ireland’s biggest and best comedy festival – Kilkenny’s very own, Cat Laughs!
This year there is a great bill, but many of the shows have sold out . Plus, this year’s programme is loaded with unique gigs that offer something a little bit different to the usual 15 minute comedy merry-go-round of the main shows. So here’s our guide to the best shows to book last minute for a cracking weekend of comedy, cats and plenty of craic!
1.The Opening Gala – Thurs 1st June
This may be one that only suits a Kilkenny local, but the opening gala has gone from strength to strength since it was introduced to the main programme a couple of years ago. It’s a great way to see s,ome of the top comedians all in one show, with this year’s line-up including Jason Byrne, Al Porter and recently added, Dara O’Briain.
Tickets are €30 and available here
2. The Improv All Stars with Dermot Whelan
Love Whose Line IS It Anyway? Or Mock the Week? Than get yourself tickets to the Improv All Stars. These guys are the best in the business, as Whose Line is it Anyway?’ stars Steve Frost, Steve Steen and Andy Smart join forces with Ian Coppinger and Today FM’s Dermot Whelan for a tour-de-force of the unpredictable and unprintable!
No show is the same and not doubt you’ll have the opportunity to throw them a curve ball to see how they cope.
Tickets available for Friday and Saturday night at the Village Inn and just €15. Book via the Cat Laughs website
3. Jameson Whiskey Tasting Experience
So, according to the Cat Laughs website, few things go together better than whiskey and a funny story. Well, you can be the judge of that with the Jameson Tasting Experience at Paris Texas on Friday and Saturday night. You’ll be brought through a tasting of the Jameson Makers Series by Jameson Whiskey Ambassador- Ciaran O’Donovan. The night will be hosted by Keith Farnan to ensure there are plenty of laughs along the way. And, the best part is that tickets are free – but you still need to register here. Not a bad way to kick off a night out!
4. Irishman Abroad with Jarlath O’Regan
Jarlath Regan’s cult hit podcast An Irishman Abroad has featured in depth, heartbreaking and hilarious interviews with some of the greatest Irish people and people of Irish heritage ever to have lived. If you haven’t already listened to it, do yourself a favour!
Specially for Cat Laughs, Jarlath is hosting a special edition of the Irishman Abroad home for one very special live recording with a panel of stars including TJ Miller (Silicon Valley) Jack Gleeson (Game Of Thrones) and Ireland’s rising star Aisling Bea. An ideal way to send a Sunday afternoon (it’s on 4pm) recovering before Bank Holiday Sunday night out.
Definitely one not to be missed – tickets are only €10 and available here
